Hopping Accommodations Like A Dummy

I had a quick trip in the capital of my home country. That trip was good for 5 days and basically, I needed a place to stay. Since the purpose of visiting Metro Manila was to finish some paperwork and have it submitted to offices here and there, then I have to look for hotels, apartelle, dormtel, hostels and guesthouses within or nearest to these offices. These offices were located within Ermita, Manila, so, I have made reservations and I’ve been hopping accommodations like a dummy coz the proximity between these places were just within 1 kilometre.

First accommodation I have stayed was a one-starred apartelle. I have been staying in this apartelle for almost all my trips in Manila. I’ve been a loyal guest to them coming back every 2 to 3 years. I got a standard room located in Ermita which is 5 minutes walk from Robinson’s Place Mall. The name is Yasmin Apartelle. It has offered an affordable price per room. I got a good deal because of being a loyal guest, they gave me 10% discount. For a standard room in their new building, it will cost PhP1,600 and PhP1,200 in the old building. Great thing about Yasmin Apartelle is, it offered free wi-fi connection, toiletries, big room space and the feeling of being at home. The star of this apartelle is of course the staff. I have made acquaintances from the receptionist to the chef to the housekeeping staff. They always wear a smile and that is what I like about this place. You felt that you are welcomed and they are pleased to see you. Surely, it was a hard time to say goodbye before I moved to another accommodation. I will definitely recommend to everyone to spend their time or stay in Yasmin Apartelle. Good job!

Then, I transferred to a different accommodation. It was just 1 block away from Yasmin Apartelle. This another accommodation is well known to backpackers and travelers who are in a tight budget. They’ve been awarded by TripAdvisor as a good place to stay from the positive feedback from the guests. I stayed in a two-starred Hostellery. It is near to Manila’s tourist spots such as Rizal Park, Manila Ocean Park, and Intramuros. Hostellery provides modern and comfortable rooms with air conditioning and free access to Wi-fi. They also provide free toiletries and a bidet. It had a 24-hour front desk, lockers, TV lounge, laundry and most of all, free breakfast. This, too, surely I will recommend to my friends who are planning to visit Manila.

Third accommodation stop was at Malate Pensionne, Inc. A little far from the previous place I stayed. This one, I made a reservation thru Booking.com and I’ve read that this property is a 3-star. It is just a 5-minute walk to Manila Bay and is near a famous coffee shop, Coffee Bean. It has been also awarded with a TripAdvisor’s Certificate of Excellence. Naming all those positive qualities, I had raised my expectations about the place. Then one day when I was in Malate Pensionne, Inc, first, it was OK. The staff were accommodating, friendly and helpful. It wasn’t the check-in time yet and I was a little bit hungry and I told them if I can go out and be right back during the check-in time so, they offered me the luggage storage from the front desk. When I came back, everything went smooth. I was assisted with an employee to carry my luggage in my room. But upon opening the room, my smile went upside down. The room was dirty, the light was dim, the AC was not working well, the space and everything were in bad position. It was like a place that wasn’t maintained. The TV signal was always interrupted. The wi-fi connection can’t reach the room so, you need to go down to the lounge to access it. The shower, toilet…I think all were really substandard. Definitely, a place I won’t be coming back at all. Malate Pensionne, Inc made an impression to me but in the worst type. It was the worst accommodation experience I had from the years I’ve been traveling and checking in and out of hotels.

Last accommodation I’ve stayed was in the centre of Pasay City where you all have the accessibility of going to any part in Metro Manila. I have checked-in near Pasay Rotonda just few walks going to both MRT and LRT-1 train stations. That was in Kabayan Hotel. It is a 3-star hotel near NAIA hubs. It offers free wi-fi access, free breakfast, luggage storage, and a capsule typed accommodation. The lobby was nicely designed which is just near the restaurant. The capsule typed accommodation was just at the second floor. It has 8 capsules with Venetian blind to provide privacy from fellow hotel guests. Though we shared toilet and bath but it was fine coz there were two T&Bs and they provided guests towels and pillow as well. It doesn’t have television yet access to wi-fi was for free. The room was clean and well maintained. The only issue though is the service and the facilities they have. When I checked in, it took about 30 minutes before I could go to my capsule but I was patient enough coz there were a lot of clients who checked in, too. The one toilet of our room was clogged and the main door kept on alarming even though it was properly closed. But those were just little sit-backs. If I’ll head back to Manila, for sure I’ll be staying there again.

Those were the hotel/ accommodations I’ve slept and stayed with just to finish all the errands I have. There were maybe ups and downs for every accommodations but one thing good about it is, they always provided me a roof over my head and kept me safe throughout my stay in Metro Manila and I am grateful for that.

A Trusted Baggage Counter in NAIA T3

Have you had those instances wherein you have 12 hours of wait before your next flight? You want to go outside of the airport but is thinking of the hassle to bring all those bags and suitcases with you. Well, don’t you worry. I discovered from my recent trip that there is this company in NAIA T3 that stores luggage for hours or a day.

It happened when I arrived in Manila via Cebu Pacific Air at 1120H and my next flight was still scheduled at 2220H. I have ample time to stroll around Metro Manila or even just head to MoA but I was thinking where would I leave my things. So, I directly went to any information desk to ask for assistance. She told me to go to this company. In Arrival area in Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 3 at the back of Burger King and just below the staircase from the Departure Area, you will find this company named Luggage & More.

For you to take advantage of this service, of course, there is a significant fee. You can check out the rates and corresponding sizes of luggage inside their office.

If you are one of those people who are leaving the country or having a trip out of the city but when it was time to check-in and get your boarding pass and you weighed in your check-in baggage and it exceeds the kilograms you are allowed, then Luggage & More will be of help to you as well. You can use their Handover service by having your excess baggage deposited and stored with them and let a representative or friend get it for you along with an authorization letter.

Once you find the price acceptable then it is time for you to fill out the form and pay the amount due to the cashier.

Half of this form will be torn and given to you and you need to present that piece of paper once you need to claim your luggage. They usually close at 2200H and if ever you want to claim it after office hours, they will leave it to stores which are open 24 hours such as Le Bistro.

I had mine stored for a short time while I went out to the mall to have some fun and didn’t think of it while I was out coz I found a trusted baggage counter in NAIA T3.

IATA Code: MNL – Ninoy Aquino International Airport

International Air Transport Association (IATA) Location Identifier uses a 3-letter code to identify locations of airports throughout the world.419674_10150619212324667_908690600_n (1)

MNL or Ninoy Aquino International Airport is the main gateway to the Philippines from the rest of the world. It has 3 terminals before but now, it has 4 and all located in Pasay City, Metro Manila. In terminal 1, it serves flights to and from Manila to the different sides of the world. It is for international flights mostly with other airline carriers ranging from Qantas for Australian Region; Jeju Air, Korean Airlines and Japan Airlines for the Northeast Asia Region; Emirates, Etihad, Kuwaiti, Saudia and Gulf Air for the Middle East Region; there is also Hawaiian Airlines, China Airlines, JetStar, Singapore Airlines to mention a few, and the airlines bearing the Philippine flag, Philippine Airlines and the famous budgeted airline carrier, Cebu Pacific Air that carry passengers to other countries. NAIA Terminal 1 as you all know has been tagged as the worst airport in Asia and the 5th worst airport in the world last 2010 by an interactive website, ‘The Guide to Sleeping in Airports’. But after that humiliating event, NAIA 1 has had major renovations but still needs more improvement.DSC03462 DSC03463 DSC03466

Claiming of luggage has never been this chaotic but in NAIA Terminal 1, it’s normal.

Changing terminals is no problem, there is a shuttle bus just out of the exit gate that will go to other terminals. But just make sure that you have ample time to change terminals during connecting flights since the shuttle bus will only depart once it is full. There are other alternatives anyway, you can take metered taxi but always make sure to tell the driver to turn on the meter coz they sometimes do it on purpose not to turn it on so they can get more cash out from your pocket.

In NAIA Terminal 2, it is like the headquarters of Philippine Airlines. Most flights are domestically served by PAL. It is wide and spacious since they followed the standard internationally.

Whilst NAIA Terminal 3, this terminal serves a lot of domestic airline carriers. This terminal is the widest and most spacious of all the 4 terminals of NAIA. It has lot of stalls, stores, restos around. Yet still needs improvement though for there are some part of the ceilings about to fall, thus, safety is questionable. But so far, NAIA Terminal 3 satisfies in terms of cleanliness, service, security, and also the wide space along with the free wireless internet connection.DSC03470 DSC03474 DSC03513

DSC03509

the TARMAC in NAIA Terminal 3

In NAIA Terminal 4, it caters airline carriers such as Tiger Airways, AirAsia and other domestic budget airline companies as well as chartered flights. Before it used to be called as ‘Manila Domestic Airport’ but now, it has been the 4th terminal of Ninoy Aquino International Airport. As far as I can remember, the last time I got to use this hub was last 2008. That time, it was a mess. I saw the ceiling falling down and some were opened seeing metal linings. The floor was wet because of the rain. But now, I noticed a big improvement when I entered Terminal 4. It was clean, well lit, very neat and had a good vibe. It may not be spacious but it was good to look at and stay while waiting for your flight.

If you happen to have different terminals during your flight connections, you can use the Airport Shuttle for a fee. They have time frames which I don’t have the information. But if you only have few minutes layover or change of planes, you can hail a taxi in every terminal. They are available and numerous just outside the terminal exit gates.

MNL airport has been tagged as one of the worst airports in the world but the good thing about it is, the government is trying so hard to have it removed from the list by improving NAIA. In the future, all those renovations and beautification will be paid off. I am just hoping it is going to be soon.

Famous Manila Landmarks VIII: Star City

374216_10150357325559667_1472673582_nAfter my tour in Fort Santiago, I called up my bestfriend to come with me, along with my two cousins to go out and have fun. It was around 1200H when we met up at Manila Bay but since we want to kill the time so, we thought of going to a theme park. After Manila Bay, we decided to go to Star City which is just in Pasay City. I didn’t care how much we spent on that night as long as I’m happy before leaving my life as a traveler and concentrate more on my profession.310546_10150357325699667_413984163_n375306_10150357325899667_1832985161_nStar City offers a lot of attractions, different varieties of rides that even the young and old will surely enjoy their stay in the STAR.384251_10150357333639667_296831117_n
