United States of America has more to offer than big cities, nice people, amazing culture, and definitely freedom. Most of those mentioned can be seen in Las Vegas. Like what Elvis Presley sung,
Bright light city gonna set my soul
Gonna set my soul on fire
Got a whole lot of money that’s ready to burn,
So get those stakes up higher
There’s a thousand pretty women waitin’ out there
And they’re all livin’ devil may care
And I’m just the devil with love to spare
Viva Las Vegas, Viva Las Vegas!
Thus, I have decided to visit the city after a year of eyeing to come and explore it.
My family traveled to Las Vegas in the state of Nevada from Los Angeles, California. It was a 4-hour drive passing thru the desert. It was at 10 in the evening when we left L.A. The drive to Nevada was smooth but definitely exhausting. While looking on the window of the car, everything was pitch-black and we just fell asleep leaving my mum talking to my cousin who is driving. Four hours later, we saw striking lights of civilisation. We were in Las Vegas already. We directly went to the hotel to check-in and we stayed in Monte Carlo in the busy strip of Sin City. We got in the room and called it a day after arriving past 2 in early morning.
I woke up with this view on our hotel room window. I still couldn’t believe that I’m in the Sin City were I used to just see in movies or TV shows. With so much excitement, I directly took a shower to start the day exploring Vegas. I observed in Vegas that during morning, everyone sleeps. Streets weren’t as busy compared during the nighttime. So, we have decided to go on a trip outside downtown and headed to one of the popular tourist attractions in Vegas. My cousin drove all the way to Red Rock Canyons. We stopped for a minute on a signage to take some pictures. But afar, we can see how beautiful the silhouette the canyons are.
It was very hot. We went back to the car and drove all the way to the hiking trail which took about 15 mins. When we got out of the car, the scenery just blew my mind on how beautiful it was. Click after click on my camera and phone but I can’t really capture how amazing it is. I might be exaggerating but I’m a person who loves mountains, canyons, forests and natures than cities, metropolis and skyscrapers.
We trekked down to the foot of the canyon. The trail was a little bit challenging. Too bad, we didn’t bring bottled water with us and we were perspiring like buffaloes under the scorching rays of the sun. But it was worth it, the view compensated everything. It must have been better if we visited the place during cold season.
After few hours, we went back to downtown Vegas and had lunch. There are many Filipino restaurants in the city and since I haven’t eaten roasted pork or what we called ‘lechon baboy’ which is a specialty of Cebu for a year, so, we thought of dining there.
Our stomachs were filled. We jumped right back to the car and drove to the sign welcoming tourists and travelers to the fabulous Las Vegas. We got there and there was also a queue just to get a photo of the Vegas sign. The sign is located in a center island of the road and since there were a lot of people taking photos of it, they have decided to put an area to take pictures and even a parking spot.
It was almost nightfall when we got back to the hotel to take a short rest. Few hours later, we were energised to the Vegas Strip tour. We’ve been hopping casinos, hotels, bars and we made sure to see the water show in Caesar Palace and Bellagio.
It is indeed right when Elvis Presley described Las Vegas in his song. It has more that meets the eye. Vegas is also called a Sin City for a reason. It boosts how beautiful the city is and how it becomes alive during dusk setting your soul on fire. It has a lot of casinos in the strip that people can burn money. Women and men just walked in every street not knowing where they all came from since they were pouring everywhere. Absolutely, there is no reason of not loving the city. Viva Las Vegas!
