First Few Months in the US

I’ve been given the privilege to come to this nation and it is also one of the countries that I would love to visit but it turns out that I’ll be staying in this country for good and live a life.

The start of a new life seemed to be exciting. Exciting of having to explore the new things around you was overwhelming. Everything in front of me was all new and I could say that I’m in the Land of the Free.

Back when I was still working in the Middle East, I felt like I was confined in a prison and got no freedom. Laws and rules of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia were so stringent that it was hard to live a life of fun and liberty. Suddenly, I’m in a new land that has been called as the country full of freedom.

The first few weeks, the excitement I felt was over the roof. I was always on the edge of my seat whenever someone will take me with them to travel. The first time I traveled was within Cleveland. I stayed for a night in Tremont in a very generous and friendly couple named Dan and Ann Marie. They let me in in their home and I was surprised with the space they have inside. It was indeed huge for the both of them. They have like 4 or 5 rooms, 2 in the lower ground with living room and leisure part of it, with toilet and bath. In the upper ground floor were room for exercise, master’s bedroom, library, dining room, washroom with toilet and bath. It was really really big for them but they still needed more space for their things.

After I stayed in Cleveland, I was taken down south in a city called North Canton. Since I was under orientation and training, I had to stay in a hotel. For a week, Comfort Inn was my residence. I got to enjoy the life living in a hotel-like facilities. I even got to go swimming for the first time in the US and it was chilly.

When I finished my training, I was then brought more south. Seeing the vast greenery of the state of Ohio was normal. I arrived in the small town called, Caldwell. There is really nothing going on in Caldwell but the people are so friendly. I got settled in my new home and I said to myself that this is not bad at all and this will be my residence for 3 years from now on.

Months later, the sickness got over me. The sickness that every foreign nationals encounter when they are out of their comfort zones and far away from their family, relatives and friends. I was just sitting on my reclining chair looking on the glass door on my porch looking on trees in my backyard. I said to myself here I am again, feeling blue, empty and missing.

Later on, I built some support network. I got few acquaintances in my neighborhood. I approached them and talked and I even helped them picked weeds in their backyard since I don’t have anything to do at home. My life here in the US was turning good. I just need to be comfortable to socialise since most of the people here are really nice. I also sometimes drown myself with my work and tried to communicate with my family back in the Philippines more often to shake off the bad vibes I have in me. As of now, I’m just busy writing this blog. I am still dependent here though since I got no car to use to travel but I can still say that I’m in the land of the free, finally. And that is how I spent my first few months in the US.
